UX Researcher

Amsterdam | 32 - 40 hours APPLY DIRECTLY

As a UX researcher at Emakina, you craft and execute UX research projects for existing and new online and mobile products and prototypes. You become the voice of the user in our projects.

The role

This role focuses on guiding and inspiring evidence-based decision making at Emakina. You generate and provide insights that are indispensable to the high standard that we strive for as an user centric agency. Your involvement can be at all stages of product development.

Your job involves all aspects of a research project, including exploring research opportunities with colleagues, designing, managing and executing research projects, conducting interviews and all other appropriate forms of user testing.

You will build on our research program, transcending and framing findings, developing guiding principles, designing strong templates for efficiency and effectiveness, and driving overall consistency in the way UX Research is embedded in our work.

The primary focus in this role is on qualitative, evaluative user- and usability testing. However, our research capabilities extend much further, depending heavily on customer questions and what we already know. Our portfolio includes diary studies, ethnographic research, community panels, conversational research, implicit testing, eye tracking, online surveys, web analytics, A/B testing and desk research. Any experience, thoughts and interest you bring here is also very welcome.

Your profile

First and foremost, you have a passion for user research and usability testing in all its aspects. You like to assess the best research approach, you make sure that the project starts, ensures progress, conduct the interviews and bring this together in a compelling insight document (that non-researchers understand as well).
In any case, your skills include the ability to translate project needs into the right research format, the quality to correctly interpret and value research results and to convert insights into a well-structured document. You understand better than anyone the importance of research, but you also see that it is a means that serves an ultimate product goal.
You are easy to get along with, because you are not only talking to users, but also to many colleagues and customers. You are empathetic, convincing and decisive. If you already have experience in the (digital) agency side, it will certainly help you to understand the different interests of your colleagues.
To be successful, you must have an affinity with digital design. Everything we do as researchers has to be in line with our core business in one way or another.

Your team

You will become part of the Design Insights team, a small but fast-growing team that focuses on both primary and secondary insights, on qualitative and quantitative findings and on research projects directly for clients and user-centered design processes, as well as a broader market knowhow.

To complete our ideal profile:

  • Relevant work experience as a researcher, ideally as a UX researcher, but at least as a qualitative researcher with design thinking know-how.
  • Able to carry out research projects from A-Z, autonomously and resourcefully, and to work towards insights that teams can practically use.
  • Experienced as an (online) interviewer. Being familiar with various (digital) tooling in this space is definitely an advantage.
  • Strong in managing your colleagues’ research needs and expectations and developing effective internal working relationships
  • Comfortable in presenting and socializing research results to colleagues and clients.
  • Able to (also) interview in Dutch, as we do several projects in the Netherlands. English is our official language at the office, so it should also be at a professional working level.
  • You are able to work from our Amsterdam office a few days a week (if the Covid situation allows)
