Every year Emakina hosts a beach party: an afternoon and evening full of fun at the beach with all our colleagues. In 2019 the weather gods were kind to us. So we were lucky to soak up the sun while cleaning up the beach, attempting to paddle board and challenging colleagues in dance-offs.
Fun in the sun
Of course the main aim of a beach party is to have fun and get to know our colleagues a bit better outside of work. That’s why there were plenty of activities during the day to participate in, like stand up paddling and beachvolley. But the fun didn’t end at sundown. Enter some cocktails, an extensive barbecue, and some tropical tunes and we’ve got ourselves a party. The private cottage from Safari Lodge was the perfect place to dance the night away.
We also added a beach cleanup to the program. As it was the first time we did that, we were unsure if people were willing to participate. Would they rather work on their tan than work on the environment? Guess what? A whopping thirty colleagues signed up to rid the Zandvoort beach of plastic and other kinds of waste. Armed with trash bags and gloves we covered miles and miles of beach. As we were doing so, quite a few beach bums came up to hand out a compliment and some were even inspired to pick up trash too. That’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?

Emakina’s 1% Pledge
The idea for the beach cleanup came from our Emakina Commits Team. The Commits Team is a group of colleagues who actively look for opportunities that add to our 1% Pledge. In 2019 we officially pledged to give 1 percent of our time and profit and support our colleagues to help others. The beach cleanup was a perfect way to put this pledge into action.
